Why You Should Watch the Hunger Games if You’re Thinking of Voting For Trump.

We took or oldest two to watch Mockingjay  Part 2 tonight. We have all read and enjoyed the books and have now seen all the movies.

We have liked discussing the social commentary and in what ways we are like the society in Hunger Games and what that means in how we live.

As we were driving home, I mentioned to them that I liked how the movie made it so clear that we must govern our actions based on righteous principles – it doesn’t matter if we think we are right – we cannot just do “whatever it takes” to get our way. If we do, we become just like those we are fighting against.

We have to study and learn true principles… about the value of human life, kindness, charity – we must act right by others regardless of how different their view is from ours. It is so important that we elect leaders that are governed by principle and not by getting what they want.

We also ought to be open to the fact that there is some truth in the viewpoint of others or they wouldn’t have that perspective.  I think it’s safe to say that if we think someone else’s view is ridiculous or completely out of tune with reality – then we don’t fully see or understand what they understand.

If we don’t learn to listen, the consequences are what none of us want.

As we were getting ready for bed, Bill mentioned that Trump is far ahead in the polls at 40% while Cruz is second at 16%. I know I am not undertanding fully why people want him as president, but it did make me wonder… are we so tired of the “other side” getting their way with whatever means they find to do it – that we are hoping to elect someone that will get us our way using whatever means he can find to do it  – principled or unprincipled? Do we just want someone who will use power to get what he wants so that we can get what we want? Are we sure we want to vote in somebody who rules by whim and not by law? What if we disagree with him in the future? Will we still like his methods?

I’ll admit, part of me wants to say, “Yeah, let’s give those liberals a taste of their own medicine!” But the better part of me, the part that loves America and those who sacrificed and made her be… the part that loves my children and wants them to have the freedom I inherited, says “No, please, it is not worth it.”

If you’re thinking of voting for Trump,  you may want to add Hunger Games to your watch list. It certainly makes you think.
